Keio Flying Squadron (慶応遊撃隊 Keiōyūgekitai?) is a scrolling shooter video release developed and published by Victor Entertainment in 1994 for the Sega/Mega CD in Japan, Europe, and North America. It is the first release of the Keio Flying Squadron series with a easy shoot-'em-up style of enjoy. Gameplay The release consists of the protagonist Rami riding on top of Spot, who should shoot fireballs at opponents. When Spot is not firing, two smaller dragons (Companion warriors) appear one after other to assistance Rami and Spot. The lesser dragons shoot smaller fireballs and should be sacrificed to do larger hurt, only to reappear when Spot ceases to shoot. Title In Europe, a demo of the first lvl of this release was delivered by Sega Pro magazine. The release seemed to end after the first lvl, but in fact the entire release was available on the disc by using a level-select hack to skip to the second lvl, and then continuing through the release. Reception Retro player included among top ten Mega CD releases, calling it "a perfectly acceptable substitute" OF Konami's Parodius that details "similar style of horizontally scrolling wackiness and puts the Mega-CD hardware to good test to produce some perfect cut-scenes and a brilliant CD-quality soundtrack."
